Our Team

John Morand
Producer/Engineer

A founder of Sound of Music, John has seen the studio evolve to meet the needs of a rapidly changing audio and video industry. A longtime member of the Richmond music scene, he has recorded national, international, and local artists including: Cracker, Hanson, Carbon Leaf, Royal Trux, Imaginary Sons, Lamb of God, Eliza Frances, Exit the Beast, Amy Henderson, LP, Camper Van Beethoven,  Stephen Jaques, The Silent Boys and many more bands and solo artists.

     In addition to his audio engineering, John  is the producer of our video department, helping to create music videos, podcasts, commercials, and short films for our clients.

Daniel Deckelman
Producer/Engineer

Dan-O Deckelman s career spans a musical array that reaches across genres and decades -- from punk, hard core, metal, and alt-country to world music, audio books, and ambient soundscapes; music's cultural centers: LA, Europe, NYC & RVA; and, of course, offers first class skills, creativity and talents that include Audio Engineering, Mixing, and Production, a Recording and Touring artist, Studio Owner, Music Conference and Festival organizer, and a Publisher of a Music and Culture Publication, and Music Director/Composer for Starr Foster Dance. 

 

A small sampling of the local, regional, and international artists Dan-O has had the pleasure to work with include: Amanda Shires, Leyla McCalla (The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Solo), Johnathan Burton (The Manhattans, Solo), Dorthia Cottrell (Windhand, Solo), Adam West, Horsehead, White Cross, and sooo many more. 

Ian Marburger
Engineer

Ian Marburger is an Audio Engineer who grew up in Fairfax Virginia and attended school at James Madison University. Ian studied Communications and Music Industry, taking classes that combined both public relations and promotion with audio recording and artist management. 

 

Ian started out his music journey making beats and recording friends in his college apartment, and after interning at the sound of music in 2022, recently became an Engineer. Ian has a great love for all music, specifically alternative and indie rock.

William Bruce Smith
Mastering Engineer/Team L
eader

Bruce has been the mastering engineer at Sound of Music for the last 7 years. He adds the final sonic touches that make our clients' songs ready for cd, download, and streaming. In addition, he is our Team Leader, managing meetings, balancing the books, tuning guitars, and exploring the wilds of social media.

     Some of his clients have included:

The Priests of Prometheus, Danielle Remigio, Grem Smiley, Chrome Daddy Disco, The Men's Celebration Chorus, Keeley Burn, Grym, Bad Biscuit Band, The Lonely Teardrops, The Nine 22s, Rachel Leech, Corey Campbell, and Bearded Whiskey. There are many more but he ran out of space!
